The Miami Valley Veterans Museum is very pleased to announce: Guest Speaker: Megan McCoy’s Presentation on Don Gentile.
Born in Piqua, Ohio, Don Gentile nurtured an early love of flying and joined the Eagle Squadron soon after leaving high school. After the United States entered the war, Gentile transferred to the United States Army Air Force where he continued to earn respect and fame for his record as an ace. In April 1944, Gentile surpassed fellow Ohioan Eddie Rickenbacker’s WWI Ace of Aces record. Learn more about Major Dominic Salvatore “Don” Gentile’s role in Ohio aviation and WWII history…
Megan McCoy is a history curator at the Ohio History Connection. She has a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from the University of Washington and did her graduate research in anthropology with a focus on museum and heritage studies at the University of Denver. Her research concentrated on a comparative analysis of military museums in the United States and Europe with a focus on veteran representation, memory and new museology’s influence on the interpretation and exhibition of war in museums. Megan has worked in collections, exhibits and education in a number of museums.
